Quality Matters Toolkit

This toolkit of written materials on the issue of quality early care and education that can be useful in learning more about the Quality Matters Campaign, planning Campaign 180 events and talking to legislators and community leaders about the importance of quality.

Overview of Quality in Early Care and Education (Vermont): This document provides some basic statistics about quality in Vermont, couched in language informed by the Coalition's work over the past 6 years with the FrameWorks Institute. It is essentially a boiled-down version of the Policy Brief.

  5. Resource List: For more specific information than what is included in the overview, consult one or more of the resources listed in this document. Note that this is not an all-inclusive or exhaustive list of available resources.
  6. Early Childhood Messaging (introductory & expanded): These two documents provide basic information on effective ways to talk about early childhood development, again informed by the FrameWorks Institute.
  7. Talking Points: Use to prepare a presentation, write a letter to the editor, craft an email to a legislator, etc.
  8. Leave-Behind Quality Card (inside / outside): This is a four-sided card (about postcard size) including basic information about the Coalition's Quality Matters Campaign, as well as a tear-off section
  9. Harvard's Center on the Developing Child's In Brief Series: The science of early childhood development and early childhood program effectiveness briefs make excellent handouts.

  10. Phone Script for Legislator Turnout to Events: This legislator "phone script" might prove helpful in making turnout calls to legislators for Campaign 180 or other early childhood events.

  11. Sample Event Workplan: This outline was used by the Building Bright Futures Council of Southeastern Vermont to plan their Campaign 180 event.

  12. Campaign 180 Media Timeline: Find a timeline for planning local media outreach for calendar submissions, press advisories and press releases for Campaign 180 or early childhood events.

  14. Legislator Tracking Form: Useful for recording notes on individual legislator's responses on the issue of quality and next actionable steps. This information statewide will inform the Coalition quality policy ask in the 2012 session.
