Media

Welcome to Kids' Media Messengers! This Kids Are Priority One Coalition initiative is aimed at increasing local and statewide media coverage of early childhood issues.

The Coalition is organizing a campaign to raise awareness of the critical need for early childhood development support. Studies have shown that investing in the well-being of children in their early years pays off dramatically later in life. A child's brain architecture is established between birth and age five. Without the right kind of nurturing environment, the foundation for a productive adulthood does not exist.

Current funding for child care subsidies is lagging far behind inflation. This year, the House Appropriations Committee voted to appropriate $852,000 to increase the eligibility guidelines for the Child Care Tuition Assistance (Subsidy) Program. This is a clear indication that we are making the economic case for investing in the early years, but work is required on many fronts to ensure that people understand how truly important child care subsidies are to young children from low- and moderate-income working families.

Do you have a few minutes? Your voice can make a difference, and it's easier than you think. Your letter to your local paper will show that there is support in the community for giving kids the kind of start in life that we all deserve. You'll be surprised at what a difference you can make by taking out a few minutes to send an e-mail.
