E-network : March Forth (4th) for Child Care

March 3, 2008

All children, regardless of family income, should have an opportunity to succeed. Quality early learning experiences help set the foundation for all future growth and development. However, according to the National Women's Law Center, "the Bush administration’s proposed FY 2009 budget would continue the administration’s long-standing pattern of freezes or cuts to child care and Head Start. Under its proposed budget, 200,000 low-income children and their families would lose child care assistance, and 14,000 children would lose Head Start."

The National Women's Law Center is asking children's advocates across the country to call or email their U.S. Representatives and Senators tomorrow, Tuesday, March 4th, to ask them to support more funding for child care and Head Start than called for in the President's proposed budget.

To call your members of Congress, dial 1-888-460-0813 and ask to be connected. To send them an email, go to the National Women's Law Center web site.

Calling or emailing only takes a few minutes, and it can have a big impact when lots of us contact Congress. For more information, contact Kim Friedman, Kids Are Priority One Coalition's Organizing Director, at (802) 348-9879 or kfriedman@svcable.net.
